The armature was used in the planning with the intention that the top of the waterfall would lie at the upper right polar point. I wanted to include more background trees in the painting so that more room at the top was needed. The good news is that in fact the top of the waterfall lies at what is called the "Golden Point", the intersection of the square and the smaller self-similar rectangle on the upper right. This was a point often used in the Renaissance for a focal point.
